FACTS ABOUT THE SUN, SOLAR ECLIPSE.

FACTS ABOUT THE SUN, SOLAR ECLIPSE.

The Sun is one of the most important Star in the Milky Way Galaxy. It takes 224 million years to complete one circle around the galactic circle. The visible glowing surface is called “Photosphere”. above the “Photosphere” is the “Chromosphere”, beyond the “Chromosphere” is the “corona”. This Corona is only visible during eclipses. The core of the sun has the temperature around 15 million degree K. It is Around 108 times bigger than the earth. The Sun is a blasting chember (Hydrogen : 70%, Helium: 28%, others: 2% ) where massive explosions happen.images - FACTS ABOUT THE SUN, SOLAR ECLIPSE. Such “Solar Flares” sometimes roll out of the atmosphere of the Sun. The surface of the Sun changes continuously , bright spots are called “Plages” and dark spots “Sunspot”. It takes around 8 min 16 sec to reach earth and has a powerful gravitational pull, 28 times than that of earth.

SOLAR ECLIPSE

The eclipses are caused when a heavenly body casts its shadow over another heavenly body . The inner cone shaped part of the shadow is called “umbra” and the outer lighter part is called ” penumbra”. Due to revolution of the sun around the earth the moon is bound to come between the Sun and the earth thus obscuring a part or whole of the sun thus is called solar eclipse. the solar eclipse occurs when the sun and the moon are in conjunction.

VARIATION

The solar eclipse may be total , annual or partial. An eclipse is total when the apparent diameter of the moon is equal to or greater than the apparent diameter of the sun. If the apparent diameter of the moon is smaller than that of the sun the moon is not able to obscure the sun completely and the sun is visible as a ring around the edge of the moon. This is called “annular eclipse”.

The shadow part or the zone of totality is only 260 km wide. An observer in this zone will see a total solar eclipse, while observer from either side of this zone a part of the sun is visible and the eclipse will be partial. A total solar eclipse lasts only a few minutes , generally not more than 7.5 minutes.
